ABSTRACT
So far we have dealt exclusively with linear phenomena. But as mentioned at the beginning of this part of the book, non-linear effects will ultimately determine how well one can concentrate energy near focus. In order to determine the influence of non-linearities, experiments have been carried out in a large outdoor basin, and have been compared with both linear and non-linear theories (Stamnes et al 1983a ). We now give an account of their findings.
