ABSTRACT

Over the years dozens of management systems have been developed to help define problems and to create better organizations that operate more efficiently, improve the operation and result in increased profitability. Management by Objectives is a system where the manager and subordinate sit down together at the beginning of a period and talk until an agreement is reached on specific job goals. The Kepner-Trego System is basically a decision-making process. The process provides a uniform method for solving problems, making decisions for action and methods to analyze a situation to determine potential problems. One of the more successful new management systems is Taguchi Methods, developed by Dr. Genichi Taguchi while he was working as an employee of the Nippon Telephone company. Quality Function Deployment is a statistical method aimed at improving product and process design before manufacture. Kaizen emphasizes unending continuous improvement. This is another Japanese program that started in 1950 and is currently being applied vigorously by many American companies.
