ABSTRACT

Bursting phenomena were discovered by Kline et al. (1967) and Kim et al. (1971) in Mechanical Engineering, Corino & Brodkey (1969) and Nychas et al. (1973) in Chemical Engineering, Grass (1971) and Clark & Markland (1971) in Civil Engineering. Before them, pioneers like Theodorsen (1955), Einstein & Li (1956), Hanratty (1956) and Hama (cited by Corrsin 1957) had inferred that a viscous sublayer might consist of coherent and organized motions whose growth and breakdown occurred periodically.
