ABSTRACT

Bus bars are an integral part of any power system. A bus bar has incoming and outgoing lines terminated on it with appropriate circuit breakers. Bus bar relaying should generate a primary protective zone, overlapping the protective zones of all adjacent lines (Fig. 10.1). Thus, the bus bar is a unit type of protection, incapable of giving any backup protection. The positions of internal and external faults are also shown. For internal faults the relaying should operate and trip all circuit breakers enclosed in the protective zone. For external faults the relaying should not operate.
