ABSTRACT

In an integrated power system various voltage levels are used for transmitting power from the generating stations to the end users. This is done to minimize transmission losses. The various voltage levels used are 3.3, 6.6, 11, 33, 66, 132, 220, 400, 750 kV or even higher. In this context, lines up to 66 kV are designated low-voltage lines, whereas lines 66 kV and above are called high-voltage or extra-high-voltage lines. This practice of designating lines varies from country to country.
