ABSTRACT

This chapter look at some of the procedures for eliminating minor, medium, and major stoppages. Several different kinds of related problems can arise with the equipment, machines, and installations on the factory floor: Step 1. study Current Conditions: Some problems are immediately obvious, but others are not so obvious. Step 2. Summarize the Problems with Each Line and Machine: As a general rule, one can create a matrix-type chart in which the columns show the type of problem and the rows show the name of the line. Step 3. Analyze Minor Stoppage Mechanisms and Their Causes: One can confirm the actual situations underlying many minor stoppages with own eyes. Step 4. Form a Clear Picture of the Phenomenon, Mechanisms, and Causes: Use Why-Why Analysis to figure out the root causes of the problem. Step 5: Set Up an Instant Maintenance System. Step 6: Provide Support for Autonomous Maintenance Activities. Step 7: Create Instant Maintenance Manuals and Demonstrate Techniques.
