ABSTRACT

The uses of methylene chloride include: solvent in film developing; household products; paint strippers; fumigants (pesticide carrier); industrial solvents; in aerosol propellants; in plastics processing; as a blowing agent in foams; and as a solvent in degreasing and cleaning fluids. Methylene chloride is used in some brands of household products such as spray shoe polish, water repellants, spot removers, wood floor cleaners, contact cement, super glues, spray adhesives, silicone lubricants, wood stains, and paint thinners and removers. Concentrations of methylene chloride in household products of these types may range from as low as 0.1% to as high as 100% (paint strippers).
