ABSTRACT

The uses of pentachlorophenol include: as a wood preservative; component of herbicides, fungicides, bactericides, slimicides, and leather and paper preservatives. The treatment of utility poles represents 80% of the U.S. consumption of pentachlorophenol, where it functions as a wood preservative. Pentachlorophenol has now been classified as a restricted use pesticide, and is no longer contained in home wood preserving solutions, insecticides, or herbicides.
