ABSTRACT

The uses of ammonia include: in refrigerants, fertilizers, cleaning and bleaching agents, household cleaners, corrosion inhibitors; in the purification of water supplies; and in industries such as pulp and paper, metallurgy, rubber, food and beverage, textile, and leather. The most significant use of ammonia is in the agricultural application of fertilizers. Ammonia is also endogenously produced in the human digestive tract, arising from the bacterial degradation of nitrogenous compounds resulting from ingested food.
