The uses of zinc include: as a protective coating of other metals; as an alloy in bronze and brass; for electrical apparatus in many common goods; and in organic chemical extractions and reductions. Zinc salts are used in wood production, photographic paper, catalysts, vulcanization acceleration for rubber ceramics, textiles, fertilizers, pigments and batteries; as solubilizing agents in many drugs; and as a primary ingredient in smoke bombs used for crowd dispersement. In addition, zinc is a required element in the body which is required by more than 200 metalloenzymes in the body.
