ABSTRACT

The uses of cyanide in the occupational setting include: in gold and ore extraction; electroplating; manufacturing of dyes, pigments, and nylons; insecticides; fungicides; as hydrogen cyanide which is used to fumigate ships, railroad cars, and buildings; and in production associated with synthetic rubber plastics nitrites. Cyanide can also be released as a result of burning of plastics, natural fibers, carpets, etc., and should be suspected in dealing with fires. 3
