ABSTRACT

The concept of the leadership system (criterion 1.1 of the 1999 Baldrige Award criteria) is summarized as follows. Leadership system refers to how leadership is exercised, formally and informally, throughout a company-the basis for and the way that key decisions are made, communicated, and carried out. It includes structures and mechanisms for decision making, selection and development of leaders and managers, and reinforcing values, practices, and behaviors.
