ABSTRACT

The basic equipment necessary is the probe, the tubing and the pressure/volume control unit. If the probe and tubing assembly is relatively inexpensive it is recommended to buy two probes and two tubing lengths. There are essentially four main types of preboring pressuremeter on the market. The first type has a probe divided into three cells: one measuring cell and two guard cells. The second type is identical to the first type except that the probe is made only of one cell, long enough to ensure that the end effects are negligible. The third type is identical to the first type except that the probe is made only of one cell, long enough to ensure that the end effects are negligible. The probe is inflated with water. The fourth type has a probe made of only one cell long enough to ensure that the end effects are negligible. The probe is inflated with gas.
