ABSTRACT

For a proper installation of the pressuremeter, one should ensure that there is enough space for its tubing between the rods and the borehole wall. As in the membrane calibration, the probe can be inflated in a series of equal pressure increments. For each volume increment, a pressure reading is taken at the end of the 15 second increment. From the standard test, one can obtain the conventional preboring pressuremeter parameters, namely the pressuremeter first load modulus, the pressuremeter reload modulus and the limit pressure. In the hydraulic pressuremeters, the difference in pressure between the probe and the gauge on the control unit is equal to the difference in height between the probe and the gauge times the unit weight of the water in the pressuremeter system. In the case of deep dry holes it is preferable to use the preboring pressuremeters designed for testing rock.
