ABSTRACT

We can define an electro-optical device as an imaging component, where the image information is at some stage an electrical signal. An electro-optical system is an imaging system that contains electro-optical devices. Examples of electro-optical devices and systems are:

image intensifier tubes, including special purpose tubes such as x-ray intensifiers,

image intensifier sights (i.e. optical sights that include an image intensifier in the imaging train),

TV camera tubes, such as vidicons, image orthicons etc,

detector arrays used for imaging purposes (e.g. CCD arrays),

complete TV cameras and systems,

video recorders,

CRT, liquid crystal and other displays,

thermal imaging cameras and systems, etc.
