ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the available sources for analyzing and designing wastewater systems. Planning for wastewater treatment system modifications requires a plan for planning. The chapter describes how to formulate a plan for planning. It also discusses various details of planning and techniques used in planning and the subject of materials selection. It is the responsibility of the environmental or process engineer to give sufficient information to the other disciplines to enable these disciplines to properly select the materials of construction. Construction and safety experts should be consulted on the constructability and safety issues of the proposed modification(s) to the facilities. Equipment costs and delivery times are obtained so that order of magnitude cost estimates and construction schedules can be made. A pilot study may be required to confirm the analysis, particularly if the cost of the wastewater units is high and if there is a chance this cost would be reduced by the information gained from a pilot study.
