ABSTRACT
The preparation and concentration of ores, prior to reduction to the metallic form, is dependent mainly on the physical and mechanical properties of the minerals. In contrast, the reduction of the minerals and the purification of the metal produced are mainly chemical processes involving chemical reactions. Two concepts are very useful in characterizing those reactions.
