ABSTRACT

This chapter considers that symmetric laminates containing orthotropic layers in which the principal material axes are not parallel to the plate axes. It presents a variety of solutions to indicate the nature of the error that is introduced when it is done. The chapter also considers bending, buckling, and free vibration. The assumed form for the solution satisfied the simply-supported boundary conditions, and when the series was substituted into the governing equations, the resulting equation contained only double sine terms. The chapter analyzes the effects of anisotropy and utilizes the extended formulation to investigate the effects of lamination sequence, orientations, and properties. The integrals in Equations are restricted to the analysis of uniform plates, the generalization to include nonuniform plate properties can be done in essentially the same manner as demonstrated in the previous section for the case of stability, using the general integral results of Reference.
