ABSTRACT

In the relationship between producer and consumer, whether two separate business concerns, or two departments within a single organization, there is always the problem of acceptance of material. Acceptance sampling is the use of a sample (or samples) from a lot so as to make a decision to accept or reject the lot. This chapter discusses the characteristics of sampling plans. The operating characteristic curve is concerned with the protection provided by the sampling plan: protection against acceptance of "bad" lots if offered, and protection against rejection of "good" lots when offered for acceptance.
