ABSTRACT

Leadership books like The Motivating Team Leader and Teamwork Makes the Dream Work prove that anyone can be a leader. First and foremost, leaders are effective listeners. They give full attention to the speaker’s concerns, feelings, and theme. Listening to the theme involves staying on the topic that the other person starts rather than introducing a new one. It also involves trying to look at the world through other people’s eyes and hearing the world through other people’s ears. In addition to listening with full attention and empathizing with people, another essential skill in leadership is being able to spotlight and magnify an individual’s strengths, assets, and resources. Leaders help to create solutions rather than dictate them. Leaders create a successful atmosphere by raising key questions, encouraging people to recognize the talents and resources among the group members, and motivating the group to stay on course to achieve their goals.
