ABSTRACT

Positive people have the skills to instantly connect with others in a way that subtly communicates, Agreement skills can be demonstrated in a variety of ways. This chapter discusses the types of agreement skills: listening for similarities between you and the other person; finding areas of agreement, even in disagreements; getting people into a “yes” mood; making “we” references. It also includes starting with “and” instead of “but” when responding with a difference of opinion; and employing similar body language, facial gestures, and pace of speech. In addition to listening for similarities or commonalties between yourself and another, another agreement skill is to find areas of agreement, even when disagreeing about an issue. Agreement skills can also be used in a rather curious and creative way when dealing with a hostile person’s direct attack. Positive people realize that they can have a greater impact on people when they are in agreement.
