ABSTRACT

For states with T < n/2 in nuclear jn configurations, seniority does not play the important role which it does for states of identical nucleons (T = n/2). Nevertheless, certain features of the seniority scheme for valence protons and neutrons may give some insight into properties of actual nuclei. In this section we discuss some applications of seniority, mostly to binding energies of nuclei. These are energies of states with lowest seniority, namely J = 0, v = 0, t = 0 states of even nuclei and states with J = j ,   v = 1 ,   t = 1 2 https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9780203739716/ff034a11-a369-4bc6-a470-f8cf1794dcb5/content/eq2662.tif"/> in odd nuclei. We begin by a brief description of these states and a calculation of the magnetic moments of odd-even nuclei.
