ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the effect of dilution on the shape of diffuse reflection spectra. Toners of photocopiers contain large amounts of carbon powder. Since the carbon absorbs Infrared (IR) radiation extensively, only a small portion of toner should be added in KBr powder to avoid complete absorption on the IR radiation if the KBr pellet technique is being used. Washing detergent for domestic use is a dry powder when the container box is newly opened. However, once the box is open, the detergent gradually coagulates and finally becomes a solid bulk. As a model of amine adsorption to acidic sites of a silica catalyst, silica gel powder treated with aqueous ammonia was examined. Spectra and in the chart are Photoacoustic-Fourier Transform Infrared spectra of silica gel powder with and without coating, respectively, using carbon powder as the reference material.
