ABSTRACT

Most species of Glyphipterix and most other genera conform to the genital pattern. Some species of Glyphipterix have very modified valvae with projections and stout sclerotizations. Species of Diploschizia have the most highly modified male genitalic, often with a complete transtilla and long projections arising from it that resemble secondary valvae, sometimes larger than the actual valvae. The extreme genitalia modifications of Diploschizia are considered to represent a more advanced group than Glyphipterix. Typical glyphipterigids have a moderately long, simple ovipositor, a small membranous funnel or partly sclerotized cup-like ostium bursae, a short and thin ductus bursae, and a small to moderate ovate corpus bursae. The haustellum in Glyphipterigidae is well-developed, ranging from relatively short to often quite long, and is always naked. Glyphipterix has the greatest range of eye size among the species studied.
