ABSTRACT

A quality circle consists of a small group of employees with similar interests or involvements in an activity or process which may benefit from quality improvements. An organization planning for several quality circles usually will appoint a facilitator who will coordinate and direct circle activities. Each circle will have a leader, usually appointed, but possibly elected by the group. The objective of a circle is to both prevent and solve problems related to the quality of outputs. While outputs in which the members are directly involved are of major concern, outputs of others related to theirs can also be considered. The leader is responsible for the smooth operation of the circle and must involve the participation of all members. Recommendations may go to management by two routes. Written reports provide a record of a circle's outputs and are always needed. In addition, oral presentations may be made.
