ABSTRACT

The order of the technical stages of a survey is reconnaissance, observations, adjustments, final calculations and plotting. The importance of these stages is different for the various types of surveys: for instance for certain setting out surveys, neither reconnaissance nor plotting may be necessary. Usually a survey job originates with a written requisition which contains a short description of the desired item such as a large scale map of a certain area, setting out of a transmission line between two specified points. On the basis of this requisition a specification is prepared for the actual execution of the surveys after a careful investigation of the available data, such as previously coordinates stations, existing photographs, maps. The safe storage of reconnaissance and observation records is most important since, without them, identical results cannot be recalculated should this be necessary for some reason.
