ABSTRACT

The project manager is, above all, a communicator. Let's develop here one phase, an important phase, of communication—the stand-up presentation. A project manager cannot get very far without fine-tuning his general abilities in spoken and written expression. It's often the case that he became a project manager because he captained the effort from inception to award of a job, including numerous client contacts, management of the proposal effort, and effectiveness in the stand- up presentation. Persuading technical people to adopt sound selling practices to gain their objectives is far from an impossible task. Management groups and technical departments must receive orientation on what marketing, selling, presentations, and communications are and why they are necessary business functions. Competent presenters concentrate a lot of time on having a truly effective, attention- getting opening that will raise the level of interest of the audience.
