ABSTRACT

Technological change continues to occur at an increasing rate. Tremendous challenges, some of which have overwhelmed mankind in the past, now, for the first time, will be overcome. Project management will be at the forefront in implementing fundamental changes to improve the way people live. Future projects will be directed toward the resolution of challenges. Those are: increased world population and changing distribution patterns, Innovation in financing new projects, a significant crisis in world energy resources, Regional water shortages, adequate food production, environmental priorities for waste treatment and disposal, infrastructure extensions and costs of construction. There are developments in motion which will have a great influence on the nature and management of future projects. The environment in which projects will be run in the future will differ from the traditional. Traditional ownership by multinational industrial firms will be replaced by ownership by government agencies and joint ventures between government-owned firms and local or international private capital.
