ABSTRACT

This chapter emphasizes the essentials of leadership and the leadership role the manager plays in the success of the project. It identifies the main parameters that are common to good project management and discusses how the role of the project manager will change to meet the many situations that arise in a project. He should understand that his success is dependent on the quality of his back-up support, the depth and quality of the systems and procedures practiced by his organization and the experience of the functional personnel. The project manager must be recognized as the team leader with demonstrated ability to make mature decisions based on minimum information. The manager must be prepared to implement effective contingency plans promptly at the first sign of trends away from targets, and initiate corrective action in advance of trend reports. There is no consideration more important than the development and maintenance of good relations with the client.
