ABSTRACT

Workers want to do good work, and they know best the details of doing their jobs. Process masters are written by the workers and supervisors, with the expectation that these documents will be the basis of the next set of process masters. The focus of process mastering is not on writing strict standards, but on guiding the workers to write living standards. Process masters are expected to be superseded and are written for easy updating. A defunct company where one of the authors worked used to be a great training ground for quality control employees. New science graduates would be hired and trained for a year or two. Fewer workers will be injured on the job. Workers will have more pride and joy in their work, and profits will improve. The chapter also presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book.
