ABSTRACT

The number of days taken for the catch was 46 but on each day plans for packing were adjusted with the catching operation. The catch probably would have been completed in a shorter time if it had started a little earlier. On the basis of the final results of the catch the number of prawns grown in the pond was found to be 806,469. Since the density of prawns at the beginning of catching operations was high only one pump net was used for 30 minutes to catch 10,000 shrimps. In the final stage two or three pump nets had to be used, each for about 5 hours, in order to procure the desired catch for packing. In the post-December period, when the water temperature is very low, pump nets are used to collect the prawns during daytime. The collection of prawns from the nets should be done very carefully to minimize losses. The prawns are caught without causing injury.
