ABSTRACT

328Numerous drugs and chemicals produce action on the autonomic nervous system as primary symptoms of toxicity. Some examples include plant toxicity (e.g., jimsonweed—anticholinergic effects; mushrooms—cholinergic stimulant or anticholinergic effects) and organophosphorus insecticides (cholinergic stimulation). Amphetamine-like drugs that stimulate the adrenergic system are discussed in chapter 16.
