ABSTRACT

This standard, as stated in the Foreword, provides guidance for the safe use of lasers and laser systems for diagnostic and therapeutic uses in health care facilities. Once a laser or laser system is properly classified, there normally should be no need to carry out measurements or calculations to meet the provisions of the standard. ANSI Z136.3 was developed by the Committee as a part of the Z136 series because of the special environment in which lasers are used, including direct involvement with living tissue of patients. Only those sections deemed manditory for compliance are included here, with approval of the American National Standards Institute. The complete standard may be obtained from its publisher, the Laser Institute of America, 12424 Research Parkway, Suite 130, Orlando, FL 32826.
