ABSTRACT

In addition to radiation hazards inherent in laser beams, other forms of potential danger lurk in various components of lasers systems. Electrical energy is utilized in essentially all lasers. Chemical hazards abound. Cryogenics, bottled gas, combustibles, x-rays, and especially mechanical hazards are all associated with laser operations. Much of the following informative hazard control data has been extracted from a document prepared by the author for the Physics Division of the Los Alamos National Laboratory and issued in 1981. In addition to describing control of laser-associated hazards, safe laboratory operating procedures are discussed.
