American National Standards Institute’s ANSI Z136.1 “Safe Use of Lasers”

All laser users in the United States will soon probably have to comply with the basic tenets of the American National Standards Institute’s Standard Number ANSI Z136.1. This standard was developed by the first committee Z136 in the late 1960s. The committee issued the first document in 1973 with a revised edition in 1976. A revision of the 1976 document was made by the committee in 1980, and the latest edition, dated 1986, is expected to be promulgated into law by Congress. Several states are currently using the standard as a guide for interim state laws.
