ABSTRACT
As stated in Section 1.2 of the ANSI Z136.1 Standard * , “The basis of the hazard classification scheme in this standard is the ability of the primary laser beam or reflected primary beam to cause biological damage to the eye or skin.” Section 2 of the standard is “Definitions,” and will not be discussed here. However, it is important that the classification of lasers be understood by laser users and the following section will explain the scheme.
