ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the sampling from powder flow or from a powder bed, and the sampling from gas-solid suspension flow. Sampling of particles will sometimes be required in order to examine the physical condition of powder handling processes. Powder sampling is an important procedure not only for the examination of powder handling processes but also for determination of the quality of powder products. Particles are mixed with air at the sampler nose and the resulting gas-solid suspension is sucked into a gas-solid separator such as a cyclone or a bag filter. A sampler that follows the foregoing rules is called a full-stream sampler. There are several types of full-stream samplers, including the car-type, belt, and rotary samplers. Sampling width (cutter width) and sampling speed are adjustable in these samplers. Random sampling is also possible by randomly changing the starting time of the sampler.
