ABSTRACT

This chapter examines material on a limited number of water bodies—eight large reservoirs and one large lake. Moreover, for the majority of species of fish information is not available for all the investigated water bodies; particularly for blue bream and catfish, the information was extracted from only one reservoir. In all the reservoirs under reference and in Lake Il'men', bream, a leading object of fisheries and, as a rule, over the entire period, for which data are available on the structure of populations, was the main catch. The chapter argues that the identified types of populations of fish make it possible to fully evaluate the fish production phenomena, and, on its basis, work out and implement the necessary organizational measures to ensure optimum use of live resources, development, and observance of scientifically based regimes of fishing in inland reservoirs.
