ABSTRACT
The first step in the formation of an adhesive bond is the establishment of interfacial molecular contact by wetting. The molecules will then undergo motions toward preferred configurations to achieve the adsorptive equilibrium, diffuse across the interface to form a diffuse interfacial zone, and/or react chemically to form primary chemical bonds across the interface.
