ABSTRACT

Thus far we have considered air breakdown in the high-frequency field of high-power radio pulses. The ionization can be maintained subsequently either by periodically renewing the breakdown with short pulses (Gurevich, 1980) or by continuously heating the plasma using electron impact or isothermal ionization (Gurevich, 1972). According to Gurevich (1980), periodically renewing the breakdown turns out to be preferable, so we will direct most of our attention here to this.
