ABSTRACT

Construction of any model from equivalent materials to study the ground pressure developed in rock masses due to mining must be based on concepts dealing with the laws governing the processes that occur in them. The structure of information for the physical and mechanical properties of the surrounding rock mass and the desired mineral is determined by the actual problem under study. The number of models is governed by the number and magnitude of factors that vary during investigations as well as the quality of construction of the models. Models are generally made and tested on special stands which allow construction of the model in the required size and reproduction of the geomining and technical situations of the given problem. The variety of problems investigated on EM models stipulate a differential approach towards determination of the boundary conditions.
