ABSTRACT

Measurement of parameters constitutes one of the fundamental stages in investigations on models and plays a major role both in acquiring scientific information as well as presentability and reliability of the basic results of investigations. The parameters usually measured on models are deformation, displacement and pressure. Measurement of displacement is helpful in determining the relative and absolute movement of contours of mine workings, and their ultimate’ state, in obtaining information for understanding the processes occurring in them and in determining the essential technical characteristics of supports. Measurements on models are associated with several technical problems owing to the use of different materials, scales of models and the need for a high degree of accuracy in measurements. The location of the measuring instruments and their number are governed by the actual problem and may vary over wide limits.
