Determination of Acrolein Content of the Atmosphere (Colorimetric)

The reaction of acrolein with 4-hexylresorcinol in an ethyl alcoholtrichloroacetic acid solvent medium in the presence of mercuric chloride results in a blue-colored product with strong absorption maximum at 605 nm (1,2).
