ABSTRACT

The best and most practical way to learn and understand the application of brush and buff tools is to examine the series of photographs of existing in-plant operations. Metal and material pieces, slivers, burrs, fragments, rust, dirt, debris, and other particulate matter are removed from the piece parts being worked on and are propelled with a force provided by the rotating brush and/or buff tools during the operation. All power brushes and buffs, like other rotating cutting tools, demand that certain operating precautions be observed to assure operator and work area safety. Wire brushes should not be exposed to heat, high humidity, acids, or fumes or liquids that can result in deterioration of the wire filaments and, subsequently, premature failure of the wires. Proper maintenance of machines is essential to keep them in safe operating condition. Special operating instructions furnished with a machine should be closely followed.
