ABSTRACT

Installation of an automated process control system is a necessity for the production management system, if the plant requires the intense control called for in a modem manufacturing environment by the construction of practical scheduling and control. Production data generated at each of the workstations are collected on an on-line basis from the terminal to the control computer. Then the computer processes the input data to create new production instructions. This type of planning and control system for manufacturing is called on-line production control system. It is an effective methodology to cope with jobbing—multi-product, small-batch—production. The detailed operation plan is most conveniently made up by means of simulation based upon the human-computer communication involved in the scheduling and control (SAC) system of computer-aided production information system (CAPIS). The effectiveness of the on-line production control system is obvious; thus, CAPIS is capable of adapting to dynamically changing environmental situations of manufacturing.
