ABSTRACT

This chapter considers a wide range of problems for the nonstationary Prandtl system. It presents the boundary layer problem for a nonstationary flow of a viscous incompressible fluid past an axially symmetric body. A solution of this problem is obtained in the neighborhood of a critical point. The chapter examines the problem of continuation down the stream. The chapter deals with the continuation problem for a nonstationary plane-parallel boundary layer, which is reduced to a boundary value problem for a single quasilinear parabolic equation solved by the method of successive approximations. It establishes that global solutions are found for the nonstationary problem in the axially symmetric case, and theorems about stability of these solutions with respect to the variation of the given quantities.
