ABSTRACT

Toyota Motors, like any other company, does have a production plan. A long-term plan, annual plan and monthly plan are formulated and derived from the overall corporate policy. A daily plan is also established, showing how many units of what type are to be manufactured daily. If a production plan is a fixed one, it becomes difficult to change quickly. To give a measure of flexibility, some companies may continue to produce the exact quantity scheduled for this month, and make the changes required the following month. Under a fixed production plan, information is given as a unit to a group in the workplace. Thus, even if there are troubles in the preceding process and subsequent process, the process in between keeps on producing what it is assigned to do. To provide timely information simply means that the manner of transmitting instructions must be consistent with the cycle time.
