ABSTRACT

The emergence of intranets is dramatically altering the way information is accessed within and outside the enterprise. Components of intranets, such as servers, networks, and browsers, are known and are well manageable individually. Their integrated management, however, as intranets, generates several challenges to IT managers. This chapter addresses each challenge and offers guidance to the more detailed explanations of management processes and tools of the forthcoming chapters. Content, server, network, and browser management are all critical success factors. Not giving enough attention to any one of them will cause IT managers to fail in managing their intranets. Figure 3.1 shows the components of intranets.
