ABSTRACT

In this chapter we assume that, in addition to the core plasma characterized by the density n c and temperature T c, there is a component of high-energy trapped particles with the density n h ≪ n c and temperature (or effective temperature) T h ≫ T c. Physically, the role of such particles can be taken by thermonuclear a-particles, high-energy ions formed owing to fast-neutral injection, and high-energy particles accelerated as a result of radio-frequency heating. We shall study the interaction of the high-energy trapped particles with MHD modes assuming that the magnetic-drift frequency ω d of these particles is higher than or comparable to the characteristic frequency ω of the MHD modes: ω d ≥ ω.
