ABSTRACT

Traditionally, when people thought about the environment, they have considered water in its various forms and locations, air, the solid earth, and various living organisms. In other words, conventional consideration of the environment has involved the hydrosphere, the atmosphere, the geosphere, and the biosphere. The role of engineering in constructing and operating the various components of the anthrosphere is obvious. For a society to be successful, it is of the utmost importance to maintain a modern, viable infrastructure. Such an infrastructure is consistent with environmental protection. Few aspects of modern industrialized society have had as much influence on the environment as developments in transportation. The industry that provides food is agriculture, an enterprise primarily concerned with growing crops and livestock. Food production and consumption are closely linked with industrialization and the growth of technology. Manufacturing activities have a tremendous influence on the environment.
